Bank on Owensboro

Bank on Owensboro, which was launched in May of 2010, is a collaborative initiative of 14 of the community’s banks and credit unions and over 20 private and public non-profit agencies. Its mission is to increase the number of local families using mainstream financial institutions. There are an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 unbanked and under banked families in Daviess County.

Brookings Institution research estimates that pay day loan fees charged to Daviess County residents exceed $4 million annually. The path to improved financial well being includes the effective and responsible use of a bank account. The National League of Cities reports over 100 cities have launched “Bank On” initiatives, with Owensboro being the first in Kentucky.
