The Green River Asset Building Coalition (GRABC) has been providing community service to thousands since 2005 by helping taxpayers prepare their tax returns for FREE! The IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides measurable results with a positive economic impact. As a volunteer, you will help the people that need it most: low-to-moderate income and limited English speaking taxpayers, senior citizens and people with disabilities…your community.

As a VITA volunteer, you may choose from several roles and responsibilities.
Depending on what you would like to do, there is a role for you.

Welcome clients to the site. Assists in copying and assembling the client papers, surveys, and volunteer time-sheets. Records statistical and demographic information when needed.
Provide language interpretation services to customers who are not fluent in English. Assist with completing required paperwork and retaining necessary documentation for tax preparation.
Keep things running smoothly at the tax site. Check people in, assess the needs, and make sure all identification and paperwork needed is present before seeing a tax preparer.
Manage a tax site, correspond with partners, recruit and work with volunteers, ensure all IRS requirements are met for quality tax preparation services, and have fun.
Get to know our clients, prepare tax returns using TaxSlayer, ensure accuracy while seeking the maximum refund and encourage them to meet with a savings specialist.
Take a second look at tax returns prepared by other volunteers at our tax sites. Make sure nothing was missed, answer final questions, print copies for client, and get signatures
Make tax time a money moment. Encourage clients to save some of their refund. Discuss split refunds, encourage the purchase of savings bonds, and open emergency savings cards to assist with future financial situ.
Listen, encourage, support, and help people create a plan and stick to it. You'll work one-on-on with people working to reach their financial goals and assist with group sessions
Guide tax clients through the process of receiving a free copy of their credit report and score. Celebrate their successes, and clarify the challenges on their report. Enable clients to recognize credit building as asset building.
